The South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) marked a historic milestone during its Ordinary Congress held in Kathmandu on Saturday, 24 May 2025, with the election of Ms. Zimbiri from the Bhutan Football Federation as the first female member of the SAFF Executive Committee. Ms. Zimbiri was elected unopposed, reflecting a strong consensus among member associations and a progressive step towards gender inclusivity in regional football governance.
SAFF President Kazi Md. Salahuddin opened the Congress by commending the unity among member associations, emphasizing that the region’s rich cultural diversity is a strength that can be harnessed to elevate football across South Asia. “Despite our varied backgrounds, our shared passion for football unites us. This unity is our greatest asset,” said President Salahuddin.
The Congress also approved several key policies and initiatives aimed at strengthening the federation’s operations and safeguarding players. Notably, the SAFF Safeguarding Policy was adopted to address the growing need for child protection in sports.

- SAFF U-17 Women’s Championship – Bhutan, September 2025
- SAFF U-17 Championship – Sri Lanka, October 2025
- SAFF Women’s Club Championship – Nepal, November 2025
Demonstrating a commitment to transparency, SAFF welcomed media representatives to attend the Congress in full, a first for the organization. All member associations and executive committee members participated either in person or virtually.
The Congress unanimously approved the full agenda, which included:
