Oscar Bruzon to replace Jamie Day as Bangladesh coach
Oscar Bruzon has been named interim coach of the Bangladesh national football team for the 2021 SAFF Championship, which will be held in the Maldives in October.
The Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) national teams committee voted on Friday to relieve English coach Jamie Day as Bangladesh coach for a period of two months and replace him with Bruzon, according to a report in risingbd.
With the SAFF Cup starting on October 1 and ending on October 16, Bruzon will be working with a national squad for the first time. The Spaniard has previously coached Spain, India, the Maldives, and most recently the Bangladesh Premier League champions Bashundhara Kings.
Bangladesh is currently on a seven-game losing streak, having lost their past two friendlies in September to Palestine (2-0) and Kyrgyz Republic (4-1). They will begin their SAFF Cup campaign on October 1 against Sri Lanka, before facing India, the Maldives, and Nepal in a round-robin style. The top two teams will compete in the championship.
Since August 2018, the Bengal Tigers have a record of W9, D5, L15 in 29 games under Day, and have been eliminated from the 2018 SAFF Championship group stages.
It’s worth noting that the Kings scored 68 goals in all competitions this season under Bruzon before ATK Mohun Bagan piped them into the AFC Cup Inter-Zone in the 2021 playoff semi-finals from Group D.
