Visiting team Kuwait and host India advanced to the semi-finals of the Bangabandhu SAFF Championship 2023 following win in their respective Group A matches on at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium on Saturday.
Kuwait had an easy outing over Pakistan defeating them 4-0, while India defeated Nepal 2-0 with both goals coming in the second half.
Kuwait lead the table with six points, while India also on six points, and are second in the table.
For Kuwait, it was all easy against Pakistan, getting their opening goal in the 10th minute Hasan Alanezi.
Eid Alrashidi doubled the advantage for Kuwait on the half hour mark. He was again in the scoresheet in the first half additional time. Alrashidi sealed the one-sided win and completed his hat-trick scoring in the 69th minute.
India, meanwhile, needed second half goals from Sunil Chhetri (62’) and Mahesh Singh Naorem (70’) to see off Nepal.
With two straight defeat Nepal and Pakistan have crashed out of the tournament with no hope of a semi-final berth. They face each other on 27 June 2023 in search of a win.
